Mother-to-mother breastfeeding support group

Picture
La Leche League (LLL) is an organization founded in 1956 by seven women who wanted to make breastfeeding easier and more rewarding for both mother and child. The organization offers information and encouragement (primarily through personal help) to those women who want to breastfeed their babies. Our mission is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support and information, and to promote an understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

Our name, La Leche, is Spanish and is pronounced “la lay-chay”. Simply translated, it means “the milk”. The name of our organization was inspired by a shrine in St. Augustine, Florida, dedicated to the Mother of Christ under the title “Nuestra Senora de la Leche y Buen Parto,” which translates freely, “Our Lady of Happy Delivery and Plentiful Milk”.

Our local La Leche League of Jackson group has been active in Jackson, MI since 1965.  Our Leaders are volunteers and have breastfed their children. They have also been trained and accredited through La Leche League International to help mothers by phone, email and social media. Our local group also has a monthly meeting where expecting mothers and mothers with breastfeeding babies may come to learn, share, receive help and build relationships with other mothers who breastfeed.
